Jennifer Binnie
Jennifer Binnie and the Neo-naturists were a significant part of 1980s subculture. After graduating from Portsmouth Polytechnic in 1981, Jennifer moved to London with her boyfriend Grayson Perry, sister Christine Binnie, and artist Cerith Wyn Evans among others and shared an infamous squat in Mornington Crescent. Here she was able to devote most of her time to developing her painting alongside performance activities with the Neo-naturists, the performance art/cabaret group to which she was a central part along with Christine Binnie and Wilma Johnson.
The Neos were a counterculture within a counterculture on the New Romantic London club scene. Boy George and Marilyn, choreographer Michael Clark and film-maker John Maybury were some who entered their universe.
